Dear Ms. Jackson:
I am writing to clarify my telephone response to your letter requesting that I consider a fee structure for L-3 assessments that is not burdensome in the event that timing problems result in the need for recertification of a candidate for commissioning. I understand that there has been some concern expressed about the appropriateness of offering reassessments for a reduced fee. After giving the matter considerable thought, including consultation with a licensed colleague and discussion with my own associates, I continue to feel that reassessments which take into account some of the material gathered in the original assessment are appropriate under most circumstances.
The only issue that causes me any concern is that of timing: while I am able to stand behind a reassessment that occurs within a reasonable length of time, it is apparently possible for a candidate to return as much as several years after the original assessment. To clarify the situation, I will be pleased to do a reassessment for $25.00 provided that it occurs no later than one month after a student's graduation and in no event later than one year past the initial evaluation. Note that this does not preclude the possibility of a candidate undergoing reassessment prior to graduation, if that would be convenient. In the event that the reassessment indicates serious concerns, the reassessment may be lengthened to permit inclusion of additional data, but the fee will remain at $25.00.
I appreciate the opportunity to work with your institution and its students, and I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Michael D. Penticuff
